Why it matters: Protection at work and on the way there
The statutory accident insurance (GUV) covers employees for accidents that occur at work or on the way to and from the workplace. It provides medical care, rehabilitation, and financial support without requiring contributions from employees. The employer covers the entire cost. This insurance ensures that unexpected workplace incidents do not become a financial burden.

Statutory accident insurance (GUV)
The GUV is a special pillar of social insurance, as the employer alone must pay its costs. The GUV covers accidents on the direct route to work, during work and from work to home. This covers around 25% of all accidents. The benefits include in particular curative treatment measures, medical rehabilitation, benefits for participation in working life (e.g. retraining), cash benefits to insured persons (e.g. wage replacement benefits and pension benefits) and - in the event of death - survivors‘ benefits (e.g. widows’/widowers‘ and orphans’ pensions).
However, as around 75% of accidents occur during uninsured periods, many employees also take out private accident insurance in order to be fully covered.
